Upper Mustang Trek is the remote western Himalayan region of Nepal which provides trekkers an opportunity to explore the unexplored beauty. It is one of the most remote and isolated regions in the Himalayas which gives you an opportunity to explore many hidden valleys. This beautiful trekking route is one of the unexplored and hidden gems of remote Nepal. Most of the people on this route are influenced by Tibetan Buddhism and they follow Buddhism. Of 15 restricted zones of Nepal, Upper Mustang is one of them and while trekking on this route, you must carry a special trekking permit. Solo trekkers and without permits trekkers are not allowed on this route.
Trekking in this route is a Trans Himalayan region which is widely considered to be an ancient seabed and this region is geographically different from other parts of Nepal. During the time trekking, we get an opportunity to see mesmerizing views of the mountain like Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and many other peaks. The trek passes through a dense forest of rhododendron, snow-capped mountain, landscapes, and many small villages. While trekking on this route, it is just wandering through a narrow alley and this valley is located in the northwest of Nepal.

While trekking on this route, you must know that you have to know about the terms and conditions of that region. Trekking on this beautiful route is not that much easy as you think. Of 15 restricted areas, Upper Mustang is one of them where you must carry a special trekking permit with you. Without a special trekking permit, you are not allowed to trek in this beautiful region. Before embarking on this route, you need at least two trekking permits which are a special trekking permit and an Annapurna Conservation area permit.
A trekking permit is easily available on the Tourism board of Nepal in Kathmandu valley and if you forget to take it in Kathmandu valley then you will easily get to Pokhara. To get permits, you have to fill out the form where you have to give a photocopy of your passport and two passport-sized photos. This trekking permit is for the protection of the culture, tradition, flora, and fauna of this region and the cost of a special trekking permit are a little bit more expensive than a conservation area permit or national park permit.
If you are planning to trek solo in the Upper Mustang then change what you’re planning. It is because trekking solo at Upper Mustang is impossible. Trekking solo in the restricted trek is completely forbidden and you have to trek in a group. If you plan to trek in Upper Mustang then there will be at least two groups of people. There are two people in your group but if you don’t want to trek without any guide and porter then this will also not be accepted. Only a local trekking agency can apply for the trekking permit and a trekking permit is not given to you and you must have an experienced trekking guide with you will doing trekking.
Autumn and spring is the best season for trekking at Upper Mustang Trek. It is because the weather and temperature of this route in these seasons are too moderate. You will get a mesmerizing view of the mountain, beautiful landscapes, and natural scenery. It is because the weather and temperature of this area are not too cold or too hot. Not only in the autumn and spring season but you also can trek in the summer season too. There will be rain everywhere in all over Nepal in summer but in Upper Mustang there will be no rain in this beautiful route.
Upper Mustang Trek is a remote trek in Nepal where you will find tea houses while trekking on this route. Accommodation is one of the basics while trekking on the high Himalayan land. While trekking at a high altitude, you need as much as you can rest and if you don’t take rest then there will be a high chance to suffer from altitude sickness. It is gaining quite a bit of popularity and there will a large number of the tea house, lodges, and homestays are opened here. The tea houses are small with a small room with two small beds, mattresses, Pillows, blankets, and other use full furniture. Most of the tea houses provide you with all types of cuisine for you but some of the tea houses provide you with typical Nepalese food.
Upon landing at the international airport of Nepal, you will see our staff pick you up from the airport. From the airport, you will drop by the hotel in Thamel where you will spend the overnight here.
Today We will collect your passports and photos to prepare your immigration permits. Original permits are needed to collect Nepal immigration permits. You can explore the town on your own. On this day we will visit centers of pilgrimage Pashupatinath temple and Swaymbunath which are enlisted in UNESCO world heritage sites. After sightseeing, we come back to the hotel.
Early in the morning, we will check out from the hotel at Thamel and drive toward Pokhara. The trail goes along the scenic Trisuli and Marsyangdi Rivers to reach Pokhara. It takes almost 6 hours to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu valley. On the way, we get a chance to enter a small town in Nepal. The trail goes along the green, rocky mountain, river, and small spring.
From Pokhara, we will take a 25 minutes flight toward Jomsom. In Jomsom, we will have our breakfast then after we will trek toward Kagbeni. It takes almost 3 hours to reach Kagbeni from Jomsom.
Today we will pass through the beautiful village of Tangba and Chunksang. On the route, we get a mesmerizing view of the mountain Nilgiri from here. On this day of trekking, there are incredible fields filled with buckwheat, barley, and apple orchards as well.
After spending one night in the Chele we will start our trekking towards Ghiling after having breakfast in the morning. It takes almost 5 to 6 hours to reach Ghiling from the Chele and spend overnight in the Ghiling village.
After having breakfast in the morning we will slowly starts our journey towards Gharang after spending one night in the Ghiling. It takes almost 4 to 5 hour to reach Charang from the Ghiling village and spend one night in this village.
After spending one night in the Charang we will slowly starts our journey toward Lo Manthang after having breakfast in the morning. It takes almost 3 to 4 hours to reach lo Manthang from the Charang and in the way we have an opportunity to explore many beautiful scenery of this region and spend over night in this place.
This day will be a leisure day of Upper Mustang Trek where we going to spend another night in Lo Manthang. Today, we will visit this beautiful village where we get a chance to visit the largest Buddhist statue which is located here. And at Lo Manthan, we had gone another night here.
After spending one night in the Tinkhar we will slowly start our journey toward Drakmar after having breakfast in the morning. It takes almost 6 to 7 hours to reach Drakmar from Tingkhar we can explore the Gompa and continue our trek to Drakmar and spend one night in this village.
After having breakfast in the morning we will start our trekking toward Syangmochen after spending one night in the Drakmar. It takes almost 5 to 6 hours from Drakmar to reach Syangmochen and spend overnight in this village.
After spending one night Syangmochen we will start our journey toward Chhusang after having breakfast in the morning. On the way to the Chhusang we have cross kali Gandaki River and pass other some desert land.
After having breakfast in the morning we will start our trekking toward Muktinath after spending one night in the Chhusang. It takes almost 6 to 7 hours to reach Muktinath from the Chhusang which is also known as the holy place for both Buddhist and Hinduism and spend overnight in this place.
This is the last-day walking trek of the Upper Mustang trek where we walk toward Jomsom from Chuksang. The trail of this trek to Jomsom takes you through various incredible courses and you will trek for around 4 to 5 hours. On the way, you will get a mesmerizing view of mountains like Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri. We will trek alongside the Kali Gandaki River before reaching Jomsom.
Today, we will drive toward Pokhara after having breakfast early in the morning from Jomsom. We will drive on the bank of Myagdi Khola which takes almost 9 hours to reach Pokhara from Jomsom. In the evening time, we will walk on the bank of Fewa Taal which gives peace to your mind.
Early in the morning, we will take a tourist bus towards Kathmandu valley after having breakfast. We will take the same route towards Kathmandu valley. After 6 hour drive from Pokhara, we will reach Kathmandu which is surrounded by a valley. In the evening time, you can walk around Thamel Bazaar which will become more beautiful at night time.
Today is the last day in Nepal. The guide will be in the hotel where you spend the overnight and the guide will take you to the international airport to see you off and hope you will give an opportunity to serve you again.
